A Pictory is a combination of a picture and a story. It is a new website founded by Laura Brunow Miner, the former editor-in-chief of JPG Magazine. It has aimed to be "a new model for all online magazines" and it showcases some of the best work of the photographers from all over the worldJust as its name suggests, a photo story! Its an online website for your best photo stories. This site is powered by Django and hosted by the Media Temple.

Pictory is basically a showcase for the people around the world to document on their lives and cultures. Anyone can submit large, captioned images to each of the Pictory’s editorial themes. Anyone can submit images on the same topic. By doing this, we can compare the work of different contributors. Most of the sites provides photo essays and work from just one photographer but the difference about this website is that there will be diverse group of people who put together their collaborative photo essays.

Now, to submit a Pictory, all you got to do is follow four simple steps. They are:
First step : Observe and document.
Pictory is mainly about true, personal stories and documentation of our lives and cultures. The Pictory members need not be any professional photographers or writers but they have to observe, photograph and consider.

Second step : Pick a photo and write caption.
For submission, Pictory should consists of one large, stunning photo and an informative caption. The captions need not be perfect as they will be proofed and edited by the staffers but they are mandatory. But you are supposed to submit a photo that YOU took. Even the caption should be written only by YOU. Incase someone is helping you with the captions, you can credit them. Your photo should be atleast 1000 pixels wide and of any height.

Third step : Submit to a Pictory theme.
Weekly themes, based on various social documentary topics give the necessary direction to the submissions. Each member can submit one pictory to each theme.

Fourth step : Check in to see if your selection was published.
In order to create a collaborative photo essay, the editor usually selects about 20 to 40 submissions from people all over the world in the form of an online showcase. These polished photo sets bring out the best in each image.
