In this tutorial, I'm going to show you how to create 3 different types of cool badges. I'm going to use Photoshop CS4 and hopefully will make this very easy for you.
The first type of badge I'm going to create is star shaped badge with rounded corners.
Step 1
First of all, open a new document in Photoshop. Choose the polygon tool and go to the "Options bar" on the top.
Set the amount of sides you want for the badge. Here I've set mine to 7. In the "Polygon Options" make sure that all the options are checked and leave the "Radius" field empty. Set the "Indent Sides By" option to about 30%. These are the options that will make the badge look just like the one I'll create. You can keep experimenting with them and create new shapes.

Step 2
Choose a foreground color and start drawing the shape. It might get out of the page a little bit. If it does, choose the move tool and put back in the document. It should look something like this:

Step 3
Now make a copy of that layer with the shape by dragging it to the "New Layer" icon in the bottom as shown below.

Step 4
Now with the new layer that we've copied, go to the small "fx" icon in the bottom and select "Color Overlay". Choose any color you want and then click OK.

Step 5
Next, still with the layer selected, click Ctrl + T to choose the Transform Tool. We're going to make the new copied shape a little bit smaller than the previous one. Press Shift and go to one of the corners of the shape and start dragging to the inside to decrease its size. After you're done, press Enter.

Step 6
Now copy this layer again and this time instead of "Color Overlay", we'll choose "Gradient Overlay" This is going to be the color of your badge, so if you want to make it a solid color, choose "Color Overlay". Decrease its size a bit like we’ve did with the previous shape.
NOTE: If you choose Gradient Overlay, make sure you deselect "Color Overlay" because only one of them will apply.

Step 7
I'll also add a very thin black stroke (1px) to this shape.

Step 8
This how the shape should look like now.

Result
Now your badge is ready. You can add some text to it or some stamp. I’ve added a text here and this is my final star rounded shape badge.

The next type of badge that we’ll create is a golden badge. In this tutorial I'll create a 100% satisfaction guaranteed badge.
Step 1
Open a new document, and set a color or texture for the background to make it look interesting. You can create it with a white background if you want to.
Now let's create the shape. First choose a color for the shape. I chose a yellowish color. Now select the polygon tool as before, but this time, the options will be different. These are the settings that I've selected for the shape.

Step 2
Now create the shape as we did before.

Step 3
Now we're going to do some editing to this shape to make it look better and shiny. To do that, we're going to add a few blending options. Click on the layer of the shape, and go to the "fx" icon on the bottom and click Blending Options.

Here are the effects that we'll add to the shape:
Step 4
Drop Shadow

Step 5
Bevel & Emboss

Step 6
Bevel & Emboss - Contour

Step 7
Bevel & Emboss – Texture

Step 8
Gradient Overlay

These are the values I used to create the gradient from left to write:
#ac7a25 - #ffe631 – #d37923 - #faeb35 - #944100
If you want you can create your own gradient. Just experiment around with colors and give it a try.
Step 9
Now this is how your badge should look like:

Step 10
Now we're going to add further details and text. So, select the elliptical marquee tool and draw a circle inside your shape.

Step 11
Now create a new layer and while selected, fill the selection with whit using the paint bucket.

Step 12
Now we'll add a thick black stroke to this fill by selecting the layer, clicking on the "fx" icon and choose Stroke.

Step 13
This is how the shape should look like:

Step 14
You don't necessarily have to follow the values written. Be creative and create your own if you want to.
Now let's add the text.
Step 15
Select the text tool and write in the middle of your badge "100%". Here's what I've done. (You can create your own text and choose your own fonts and colors) You can click on Ctrl + T to select the transform tool and tilt the text.

Step 16
Now let's add Satisfaction guaranteed on the black circle.
Select the text tool and write "SATISFACTION". Choose the font size and color and then go to Text Warp. I've set the values as shown below. Adjust it until you feel it's right on the badge.

Step 17
Now we’ll do the same to write "GUARANTEED" in the bottom.

Result
There you go. This is the final badge.

The last type of badge that we'll create is a sticker
Step 1
Create a new document and then draw a circle. Colors are not of importance now. Now select the pen tool and make sure the options below are active. Also make sure the vector mask in the layer is selected as well.

Step 2
Anything we draw now will be subtracted from the original object. We'll cut off the bottom portion of this circle. Make a selection like the one shown in the figure below. You can do that by clicking with the pen tool.

Step 3
Anything we draw now will be subtracted from the original object. We'll cut off the bottom portion of this circle. Make a selection like the one shown in the figure below. You can do that by clicking with the pen tool.

Now click Ctrl + H and it will be removed.
Step 4
Now, we'll create the page curl. We're not going to worry about colors now. We'll edit them later on.
Select the pen tool and make sure the options shown below are active. Make sure you change the color as well so we can differentiate between the objects. Now click on the bottom left corner of the shape and click on the bottom right corner of the shape and drag your mouse to create the curl as shown in the figure below.

Step 5
Now click Alt + the last point we created and the first point as well. You should something like this now. If the curl is not positioned well, select the direct selection tool and drag the point to align it perfectly.

Step 6
Now, we're going to add some color gradients to it.
Select the circle shape first and lest add a gradient color to it (from the "fx" icon at the bottom of the layer palette). Below are the values I selected.

Step 7
I’ll also add a thin stroke to it.

Step 8
Now for the curl, I'll add the following:
Gradient Color:

Step 9
Drop shadow:

Step 10
This is how the shape should look now:

Result
Now I'll add some text to it. And this is the final sticker.
