In this tutorial I’m going to show how to turn a little girl into a Shrek Baby.

Step 1
Open this picture or use your own. I recommend you to try the tutorial with this one so you learn the technique and then do it again on a different picture.

Duplicate this layer
Step 2
Now go to the tool panel and select the Color Replacement Tool. If you can not see it, click on the little arrow on the lower right corner of the Brush Tool. It will show you a panel with options. Choose Color Replacement Tool. I’m using Photoshop CS4. If you’re using previous versions you’ll probably find the Color Replacement Tool with the Patch and Healing tool.

Set # 6c6c27 for the foreground color and start painting the face of the girl. It doesn’t matter if you paint over the hair or eyebrows because we will remove them later. Just make sure you don’t pain inside the mouth and the eyes.
You’ll get something like this:

Step 3
We need to add some light to the face. Grab the Dodge Tool and set the range to midtones and the exposure to 12%. Dodge over the cheeks, chin and nose as you can see in the picture below:

Step 4
Now we need to remove the hair that is on the forehead. First of all duplicate the color layer. This is a difficult step and if we mess it up then maybe we can not go back, so it’s better to duplicate the layer, just in case.
To remove the hair we’re going to use different tools. To start with we use the Patch Tool. We’re going to do this in little parts. Select a part of the hair in the forehead and drag that selection to a clean part, like the cheek which is big enough to cover the hair. See the image below to get the idea.

You see, repeat this until the whole forehead is clean like this:

Great, now we need to use the Clone Tool to balance the colors. Grab the Clone Tool, use a soft brush and set the opacity to 20%
Start cloning! Just do it until you get an even color, try to clone the darker areas into the line between the hair and the forehead. The lighter areas are for the central part of the forehead. Don’t panic if you lose the eyebrow we're going to cover it later. Just make sure you get the forehead green. See:

For the final touch we’ll use the Dodge and Burn Tool. For the dodging part, use a big soft brush, 67 size approximately. Set the range to midtones and exposure to 12%. Dodge the center of the forehead like this:

For the upper part, where the hair starts to grow, use the Burn Tool to make it darker. Set the same settings that you used for the dodge tool.
Step 5
Next thing to do is to change the mouth color. Using the Lasso Tool or any selecting tool that you like (Pen Tool, Mask Tool, etc) and select the lips. Copy and paste the mouth into a new layer. Grab once again to Color Replacement Tool and set # 87683a as the foreground color. Paint the lips.

Step 6
Now we are going to take care of the eyebrows. I use this image of Shrek and Fiona.

Grab the Lasso Tool and make a selection around Shrek eyebrow. It doesn’t have to be perfect, just make sure the whole eyebrow is selected, we take care of the borders later. Copy the selection and paste it in the document of the little girl.

Go to Image > Adjustments > Hue / Saturation. We need to match the color around the eyebrow to the color of the face. Use these values:

Now that we almost match the color we need to fix the borders. To do this we’ll use the Eraser tool. Choose a soft brush, size 65 and set the opacity to: 24%
As the brush is really big we're not going to use it as we usually do. We just put the border of the brush close to the border of the eyebrow and erase (see image below if you don't understand where to put the brush). This way, as you are using a SOFT brush with low opacity you'll only removing some part of the eyebrow and that's exactly what gives you the right effect because the borders will blend with the skin below.

Duplicate this eyebrow layer and merge it with the first one so you can get a thicker eyebrow. We’re going to call this layer "eyebrow1". Now duplicate “eyebrow1” and name it "eyebrow2" so you don’t get confused. Flip it Horizontally (Edit > Transform > Flip Horizontal) and rotate it (Edit > Transform > Rotate) to place it correctly over the girl’s eyebrow. As you can see it does not fit perfectly so what we need to do it warp it a little. Go to Edit > Transform > Warp and move the points till you get this:

Erase the parts you don’t need using the same settings as before. Big soft brush, opacity about 24%. This is what you get:

Step 7
Now we’re going to change the hair of the girl. Select the hair from Fiona. You can use the technique that works best for you. What I did is the same as I did with the eyebrows. Just made a rough selection and then, once I've pasted it into the document I’m working, I erase with soft big brush and 24% opacity.
Scale it, rotate it and if you need it, warp it to reach the girl's face borders.

Once you placed it go to Hue and Saturation. Set these values so we can match the color of the ears with the color of the face:

Yeah, the hair looks quite brown and Fiona is red-haired so we need to do more to get it right.
Step 8
We need to merge all the layers to apply some contrast to the whole image. Select all the layers in the document. Press CTRL+SHIFT+E. You’ll get a new layer that contains all the layers below without losing them separately.

Go to Image > Adjustments > Brightness / Contrast and set the Contrast to +32:

Hit OK. Duplicate this merge layer and set the Blend Mode to Soft Light and the opacity to 65%.

Result
And now we’re finished and this is the result:

Hope you have fun doing it!
See ya.
