CSS Crème in Zed

One command connects Zed to 12 tools that search real design systems, pull a DESIGN.md with measured contrast, and decode any public site into tokens. Free, no account, no API key.

  1. Run one command

    npx -y add-mcp https://csscreme.com/mcp -a zed -n csscreme
    This project only
    .zed/settings.json
    Every project (add -g)
    ~/Library/Application Support/Zed/settings.json

For every project on this machine: npx -y add-mcp https://csscreme.com/mcp -a zed -n csscreme -g

Zed keeps MCP servers inside its main settings file rather than a file of their own, so the installer edits a file you already have. Check the diff.

  2. About writing it by hand

Zed spells a remote server in its own way, and we have not verified that shape line by line, so this page does not print one. A config block that is nearly right is the thing that makes people give up. Run the command above and read what it wrote to .zed/settings.json.

  3. Confirm it connected

Open the Agent panel settings. csscreme should be listed under context servers.

Then try it. Ask Zed: “Use csscreme to find a calm fintech dashboard theme, then pull its DESIGN.md.” It should call search_themes, then get_design_md.
